Novel monitoring system for the detection and localization of mobile phones in large buildings based on a matrix of microwave sensors has been designed and practically employed. Each sensor consists of three RF channels for a separate detection of different mobile services. Both time-domain and frequency domain analyses are applied on the RF receiver output signals in order to differentiate individual mobile services. Up to now, microwave systems with approximately 2000 sensors have been installed and successfully operated in 13 prisons in the Czech Republic. The system has been designed as one of efficient tools for improving security in large highly guarded buildings.
