The paper is concerned with the ball valves life used in crude petroleum extraction pump. The main problem is the ability of the ball valves material to withstand erosion-corrosion wear due to the crude petroleum. The different composite materials for ball-valve couple are studied. The ball valves from the WC-Co system are recommended for crude petroleum extraction with high abrasive action and average corrosive environment. The ball valves from the WC-Ni system are recommended for crude petroleum extraction in high corrosion environment and constant abrasive action. The hard metal ball valves are used for the crude petroleum extraction with densities 0.8 ― 0.92 g/cm~3. For densities up to 0.8 g/cm3 ft is recommended the ceramic balls (ASMC grade) and the seat , both from the system WC-Co (G40) and/or NG40 (WC-lSTi), as function of the corrosion of the crude petroleum.
