For the design of robust production processes simulation techniques become increasingly common. Forming processes like powder compaction with their complex material behaviour combined with multiple CNC axis pressing are strongly driving the development of such technologies. The compaction process has two states, where the material loading is different: During densification shear stresses may occur, which lead to shear bands - cracks. Thereafter the unloading and ejection may cause brittle cracks by the first nominal stress. The avoidance of such cracks is a main concern in the daily business in the production of PM steel components and thus the major task of process simulation.
