Cold isostatic compaction of spherical powder particles is simulated using the discrete element method. The study concerns the behaviour of the applied isostatic pressure as function of densification when the radius of individual particles deviates slightly from a mean value. Of particular interest then is to compare the present results with previous ones pertinent to compaction of truly monosized particles. In the present analysis, ideally-plastic material behaviour is assumed and as a result, local contact between powder particles is described by a linear force- displacement law. The results are applicable to powder aggregates at random packing with a relative density of powder material up to 0.8.
