In this paper we investigate the influence of loading history and compaction level on the yield response of green compacts. The compacts were generated by radial loading in stress space with four constant stress ratios to different density levels using a high pressure triaxial cell. The compacts were then subjected to different unloading and reloading paths within the triaxial cell to map out the shape of the yield surface. The evolution of the yield surface as a function of compact density and loading path will be described for compacts made of Distaloy AE. The compaction data are used to calibrate loading surfaces. The yield data were fitted using a function which is an extension of Hill's anisotropic model for incompressible materials. The relative merits of loading surfaces versus yield surfaces are discussed.
