CVPI (Cervical Vertebrae Porous Implant) and TVPI (Thoracic Vertebrae Porous Implant) of sponge titanium powder has been deigned to cure defects of vertebrae bodies. One of the aims of the work done was estimation of optimal conditions for initial stable fixation and fast ostheo-integration of an implant and also minor injuries to the close tissue. The aim has been achieved by choosing optimal parameters of the production technology and achievement of anisotropic porosity of an implant - maximal on the top and bottom surfaces and within an implant and minimal on the side surface and in under-surface layer. Samples of sponge titanium powder implants of different granulometric compositions has been produced. The production technology includes compaction and sintering. Porosity of the samples was 0.45-0.60, average pore sizes - 90-110 mkm. Powder metallurgy methods enable to produce titanium powder samples with porosity from 0.35 to 0.68 and with average pore sizes from 12 to 540 mkm. 46 successful operations has been completed (information dated August 1, 2003) using CVPI and TVPI including 2 patients with simultaneous fixation of two implants in cervical and thoracic parts of the backbone.
