The Element-Free Galerkin (EFG) Method, within the framework of finite strain for saturated soil, is adopted to solve several geotechnical problems related to the construction sequence for soft foundation. A set of governing equations for saturated soil is discretized using the EFG strategy with a moving least square interpolation. It is expected that the singularity of the stress at the corner of the loading platen can be avoided by a smoothed solution. To examine the localized deformation and stability of the soft soil foundation under rapid loading, the current scheme is applied to a problem in embankment construction. Numerical solutions provide a feasible construction sequence to ensure the stability of the embankment.
