The behaviour of two unsaturated compacted soils used as construction materials

This paper discusses the behaviour of soils as construction materials presenting the results of suction controlled triaxial tests performed on two different soils. The influence of soil nature, compaction procedure and suction on compressibility and shear strength are discussed. Overall the paper demonstrates the need for carefully considering unsaturated conditions in handling engineering problems involving compacted soils.
