A probability based risk assessment of expansive steelworks slag has been carried out using Monte Carlo simulation methods. The predictions have been used to develop a reclamation strategy based on mixing to reduce the maximum heave values and improve the predictability of the materials, rendering the material suitable for re-use as earthworks fill.
