Reliable techniques to characterise the relevant optical properties are of essential importance for the development, optimisation and production of high quality laser components. Currently, efforts are made to provide and standardise such test procedures. In this paper we report on investigations of severalt est methods, which are discussed as possible International Standards. The work is embedded in the EUREKA project EUROLASER CHOCLAB and focuses on laser damage tests and the characterisation fo absorptance, reflectance, transmittance and scatter losses. The goal is to analyse the accuracy and reproducibility of the test procedures and to contribute suggestions of possible refinements to the standardisation working groups. In the following, a short summary of our results is presented.
