Active materials offer many opportunities to improvethe performance of space systems, among which thepossibility to control the vibration of lightweightstructures. In this paper, a FEM code for the simulationof laminated shell structures with piezoelectric plies isused to study an active payload support developed as atechnology demonstrator in the frame of an ESAprogram. The code is then used in conjunction with theMATLAB code to provide a preliminary evaluation ofthe response of the system, subject to closed loopcontrol.
