The use of OTDRs working on a dedicated bandwidth is very appreciated in order to have control on the traffic line, monitoring the status of the carrier while degradating or in case of sudden faults. Typical limits of visibility are bypassed utilising high dynamic devices, obtained by optical fibre amplifiers (by means of Raman effect or Er doped fibres).
