摘要

We have developed practical multifilamentary Nb Nb3Sn wires withCuNb composite reinforcement (CuNb/Nb3Sn). The CuNb/Nb3Sn wirereveals the splendid mechanical tolerance of 220 Mpa proof stress and 0.8 %bending strain. We intended to fabricate a CuNb/Nb3Sn coil by areact-and-wind (R&W) method for a wide bore cryogen-freesuperconducting magnet. The R&W processed coil with a size of 260 mminner diameter, 289 mm outer diameter and 319 mm coil height was made,and was set into a cryogen-free backup NbTi coil. In the combination test ina backup field of 5.6 T, the R&W processed CuNb/Nb3Sn coil generated 1.9T at 160 A. A wide bore high field cryogen-free superconducting magnetwound with highly strengthened CuNb/Nb3Sn wires by the R&W methodwill open a new magnet technology.
