STRUCTURED SYSTEM SAFETY TRAINING COURSE - TO TRAIN THE HIGHLY EDUCATED SYSTEM SAFETY ENGINEER -

Looking back the years of the space development in Japan, history of system safety only goes back to 20 years ago, when the first engineering requirement document of JAXA was issued in 1986. Following that JAXA established the System Safety Standard in 1992 and the Launch Vehicle Payload Safety Standard in 1993. Although these standards had been being applied in JAXA's launch vehicle and satellite development projects, these standards were not necessarily effective. JAXA enhanced the role of System Safety Review Board in 2002 and was continuously working for system safety improvement. This paper first provides a brief discussion about JAXA's system safety problems and an outline of the improvement plan. Secondly, it describes the necessity and the concept of the training course. This paper also shows JAXA's certification program plan for system safety manager and project manager.
