Helmet streamer Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) can be triggered by shearing the photospheric footpoints of the magnetic field lines. We performed a numerical simulation study of this mechanism and investigated the effect of the different initiation parameters, such as the maximum shear velocity and the width of the shearing profile, on the initiation and the evolution of the CMEs. An important aspect of this study is that the simulations were performed for three different models for the background solar wind. In this way we are able to quantify both the effect of the background wind and the effect of the initiation parameters on the CME evolution.
