This paper outlines a research study that used high resolution ultra-sonography with an 8-16 MHz linear array transducer to explore the median nerve in the area of the carpal tunnel. The main purposes of this study were to investigate whether there is a correlation between hand and wrist function and biomechanical movement of the median nerve within the wrist, and to observe any significant differences between normal neural motion and that found in people who have symptoms of an upper limb disorder. Ultimately the aim of the research is to investigate whether there is an association between functional work related activities and median nerve dynamics.
