The kinetic study for the leaching of iron from cassiterite ore in KOH solution was studied. The effects of KOH concentration, particle size and reaction temperature on the leaching rate of iron were also examined. The results of leaching studies showed that the leaching of iron from cassiterite ore in KOH solution is significantly influenced by the reaction temperature, KOH concentration, and decrease in particle size. The study showed that 90.62% of iron ore was leached in 8M KOH solution at 80°C within 120 minutes. The experimental data were well evaluated using the shrinking model for surface chemical reaction and diffusion control through the product layer. The activation energies for the iron ore dissolution using the two models were calculated to be 32.06KJmol~(-1) and 97.97 KJmol~(-1) respectively.
