Biodiesel from CSO-An Option for Reducing Smoke Levels in Diesel Fuel Engine

The rise in civilization leads to improvements in transportation. It is estimated that transportation vehicles cause about 60% of air pollution, 20% from power generation and 20% from industrial and other sources. In the development of transport the internal combustion engines both petrol and diesel engines, occupy a very important position. Diesel fueled vehicles discharge pollutants like CO, HC, NOx, smoke etc, which are harmful to the universe.rnThis paper deals with emission test on 5 H.P diesel engine by using 100 % bio-diesel from Cotton Seed Oil (C.S.O) which is prepared at our laboratories. The cottonseeds are available in India at cheaper price, as it is byproduct from cotton industries, so that it was chosen. It is found there is 40 % reduction in smoke levels in comparison with diesel fuel also there is decrease in the exhaust odour.
