The purpose of this study was to find an answer to the origin of high "inert-content" (CO_2, N_2) gases, explored in the "Szolnok Flis Area" and it's direct geological surroundings. Since the carbon isotope ratio of methane homologues is unknown, the origin of these gases can be only estimated indirectly. During the development of the project several problems occurred concerning the maturity of the organic matter and, related to this, the vertical migration of the gases, the composition - in-homogeneity of the gas-pools and the relationships between them. The solution of these problems effectively contributed to the revelation of the origin of the gases within the area.
