Coals of the Oil-bearing Basin of West Siberia

摘要

West Siberia is the plane, which represents the largest sedimentary basin (megasyn-cline), formed by Mesozoic and Cenozoic deposits. This basin is unique because great resources of oil, gas, condensate, coal, peat and bituminous rocks (oil shales) are confined in its interior. Oil and gas form the basis of power engineering in Russia and are mined intensively but coal still remains to be explored and exploited. Meanwhile the geological reserves of coal in the West Siberia basin exceed 50 Gt.
