Several glass compositions originally designed to immobilize the high-level radioactive waste generated at the Savannah River Site (SRS) were buried for a period of 2 years in Boom clay during the HADES (high activity disposal experimental site) burial study at Mol. The simulated waste glass burial samples were characterized using secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS). Fourier transform infrared reflection spectroscopy (FT-IR) was performed before and after testing. Data from these characterization studies will be presented for the SR-165 waste glass, along with a compilation and comparison of SR-165 of glass performance from other field burial studies.
