The only zinc producing plant in Turkey is Cinkur which is located in the central part of the country. During the production of zinc in this plant using the Waelz-densification kiln combination together with the leaching-electrowinning process, various waste materials such as solution purification precipitates, lead-cadmium udst are produced. In this paper, the various possibilities of processing these waste materials and the possible recovery of valuable metals like germanium, copper, zinc, cadmium, cobalt and nickel are discussed. Also, the economical advantages as well as environmental benefits resulting from such processing are emphasized.
