In this study, an attempt was made to predict the ground water levels for a Ambur sub-watershed in upper Palar basin of Tamil Nadu by using groundwater modeling software Modflow. The capability of G1S was used to create a database necessary as input to MODFLOW. The rainfall recharge in the study area was calculated using an empirical formula and ground water draft was estimated considering irrigation, domestic and industrial purposes. Time period from "May 1992 to June 1997" was used in calibration of the model and two years data of period "June 1997 to June 1999" was used in simulation. The simulated water levels using MODFLOW were compared with observed water levels. The hydraulic heads of simulated and observed values showed a reasonably good correlation and same model can be used for the prediction of ground water levels in future and also estimation of groundwater for the further developmental activities in this zone.
