Corrosion fatigue behaviour and fracture mechanism of 35CrMo steel in Cl~- corrosive environment

This study aims to generate the fundamental data required to be able to predict the corrosion fatigue behaviour of commercial 35CrMo steel since which is the material of choice for most engineering applications. In order to have a comparison of the effect on fatigue life due to corrosive environment, experiments were carried out in both laboratory air and Cl-corrosive solution using circle-shaped and pre-cracked notch specimens. The research work demonstrated that 35CrMo steel has a weak fatigue resistance and the fatigue crack growth rate is delayed when subjected to combined action of Cl-corrosion and nonsymmetric cyclic stresses (r = 0).
