Analysis of Physical Changes to Optical Fibre Resulting from Annealing Processes

Optical imaging of rare earth doped optical fibre employed in temperature sensing has been achieved using the differential interference contrast technique. Fibres annealed under various conditions demonstrate that the annealing process has a small effect on the refractive index profile of the fibre.
