The major objective of the current research is to extend the existing Large Eddy Simulation (LES) capability in Cartesian coordinates to curvilinear coordinates. The newly developed LES capability makes use of the contravariant components as the dependent variables in a staggered grid system. This extension permits the simulations and detailed investigations of turbulent flows in complex geometries. To test and validate the newly developed capability, a LES is performed for a turbulent flow in a concentric annular pipe at Re_τ =100 and a radius ratio of α = R_(inner)/R_(outer) = 0.5 . Some preliminary results are obtained and these are compared with existing experimental and DNS data.
