Abstract: This paper is concerned with the development of a new high-definition, high- contrast membrane-mirror light valve for use in high-brightness, three-color, flickerless, large-screen projection display system. The membrane-mirror light valve is an electron-beam-addressed unit that achieves high resolution, high contrast and flickerless operation through the use of charge-transfer-plate technology, and grid-stabilized flickerless operation. The paper focuses on the physics of the light valve and presents preliminary experimental results for a flickerless light valve framing at 30 Hz with 256 $MUL 256 pixels in a 20 mm active area.!20
