Prof. Dr. Dieter M. Kolb (1942-2011)

Dieter Kolb studied physics at the Technical University of Munich, and continued in graduate research with Prof. Heinz Gerischer. Following a postdoctoral appointment at Bell Laboratories, he returned in 1971 as group leader in the laboratory of Prof. Gerischer, by then relocated to the Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin. In 1990 he moved to the University of Ulm as Professor of physical chemistry and electrochemistry and Head of the institute of electrochemistry, a position he held until 2010. In 2011, he was appointed founding director of the Helmholtz Institute of Electrochemical Energy Storage.
