Au-Ni and Au-Cr alloys were oxidized at 1073 K in air. Internal oxidation took place at the surface of the alloy, which directly related to the oxygen permeability. The oxygen permeability of gold was determined by the thickness of the internal oxidation zone. The activation energy of the oxygen permeability in gold is similar to that in the other fcc metals.
