The insulation system of Ranbar copolymer resin and Electrolock mica tape was evaluated on a 6900-volt system and showed outstanding moisture and chemical resistance. In addition, the dissipation factor at elevated temperatures up to 200/spl deg/C remained under 10%. Because of these results the following evaluation was undertaken to determine if the resin system would also be capable of satisfying the requirements for a system that could be used on motor and generator coils. The insulation system will also employ a mica turn magnet wire (no enamel or glass) that will withstand repeated high surges for 13800-volt application. This paper includes testing results on the 13800-volt system to IEEE standards and compares it to an existing epoxy anhydride high voltage system that is used in the field. This system was evaluated for turn to turn testing, repeated surges (36000 surges at 22632 volts), dissipation factor, voltage endurance at 155/spl deg/C, dielectric breakdown, and chemical resistance.
