In order to optimize the behavior of the transmission system during the gear shifting and find the way to improve the shift quality, the dynamical and kinematical characters of the planet transmission system were analyzed in this paper. The shifting quality improvement methods were discussed from the view of the structure of the transmission system. Based on the comparison of different methods, the clutches overlap time control approach was selected as the control strategy. Genetic Algorithm (GA) was introduced in finding the optimization parameters. Simulation results indicated that the control strategy implemented can reduce the dynamic load in the transmission system and the shift quality was efficiently improved.
