The Flemish Pass, with water depths exceeding 1000m, a harsh environment and icernmanagement issues, is a hostile environment for oil and gas production. This paperrnprovides insight into the magnitude of the technical, operational and commercialrnchallenges of this environment as perceived by a specialist front-end engineeringrncompany.rnDevelopment solutions are discussed that could be used today, as well as those that mayrnbe available within five years. The relative merits of each are discussed. Finally, thernprocesses for assessing and ranking the development options are described, together withrnsome of the key selection criteria likely to be used.
