Design of a geodata translation system

摘要

Data sharing is an important issue in GIS application because of the high cost for obtaining geodata. Two main obstacles to geodata sharting are the difficulty of implementing data translators and the lack of mechanism to support semantic translation. We are developing a geodata translation system that aims to overcome these two obstacles to geodata sharing. It is called a system rather than a translator because of the capabilities it will provide for dealing with a wide range of issues relating to geodata sharing. In this paper, we describe the design of this system.
