UML and its application in GIS

摘要

UML stands for Unified Modeling Language. It is a language for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and documenting the artifacts of software systems. UML is the best achievements in Object-Oriented analysis and design fields for past many years. It unifies many OOD methods and has been realistic international standard in Object-Oriented analysis and design. UML static model includes use case diagram, class diagram, object diagram, package component diagram and deloyment diagram. The dynamic model include state diagram, sequence diagram, collaboration diagram and activity diagram. Using messages and events can activate these diagrams. GIS system is kind of very complex software engineering. GIS spatial data model is the most important parts in GIS system. Depending on UML we can depict spatial data model more normal and more accurate. Rational Rose is the product of Rational Corporation. Depending on Rational Rose we can design spatial data model using UML. Rational Rose make us visualize the UML model diagram and also can generate the code of C++ or VB and document of model automatically. This paper is divided four parts. First is about UML. It introduce the general concepts about UML. Second is about Rational Rose. Third is UML application in GIS. Author generates the basic Use case and class diagram of GIS using Rational Rose. The finale is conclusions.
