This paper outlines how and why market conditions are now favourable for the emergence of marine biofuels – something that we can already observe today – and the ramifications they will have as a growing proportion of the marine fuel mix alongside other alternatives, such as LNG. It outlines the supply and sustainability criteria second-generation biofuels will have to overcome to be adopted fully as part of the future marine fuel mix by 2030.
