The Environmental Design Research Association has been in the forefront of diversity issues. Our focus on people and their relationship to the environment has addressed the complexity of the human condition through explorations of culture, gender, race, ability, and socio-economic standing, among other variables. Within the scientific discourses that are homes to many of us, we have challenged universal assumptions about the objects of our research, transforming them into a diverse array of subjects. As a young and renegade discipline, we challenged existing paradigms in the social sciences that focused entirely on people and brought the world back into the discourse.
