This paper presents the GUARDS project,and the expected applicability of its results in the space domain. The GUARDS project is an ESPRIT project of the European Community,and involves eight partners over four countries.Its overall objective is to propose a global approach to the development,validation and certification of safety-critical real-time systems, through the definigtion of a generic architecture based on reusable basic building blocks.A consistent set of methods,techniques and tools will allow end-users to develop at a reasonable cost specific instances of the architecture,while ensuring real-time and dependability properties as well as the ability to be fully validated and certified.
