Unique Common Sulfur Project Supports Continued Qatar Gas Developments

The continuing growth of Qatar's LNG, GTL, Natural Gas and NGL production, and specifically the Ras Laffan City (RLC) industrial complex, will require proper collection, processing and shiploading of the by-product sulfur to ensure uninterrupted commercial operation. Current and planned sour gas processing facilities will ultimately treat over 10 billion Standard Cubic Feet per Day (SCFD) of sour gas from offshore wells and may produce up to 12,000 tonnes/day of byproduct molten sulfur while meeting strict environmental emission regulations. The Qatargas Common Sulfur Facility (CSF) was initiated by a joint task force of producing companies to determine the optimum means for collection, processing and market distribution of the sulfur by-product from the multiple producers. The world-class and one-of-a-kind project, coordinated by a Qatargas Project Team for Common Facilities, is currently operational and includes the following primary components. 1. A network of more than 30 kilometers of electrically-heated Molten Sulfur Collection Pipelines to accept sulfur from the multiple producers and transfer it to a central processing facility, the CSF 2. Molten Sulfur Storage and Conditioning System 3. Solid Sulfur Forming System consisting of up to 13 Granulators to produce a premium-grade solid granule product 4. Solid Sulfur Conveying and Storage Systems for inventory control 5. Solid Sulfur Shiploading System to move more than 4,000,000 tonnes per year of premium solid sulfur product onto ships for delivery to markets 6. Associated Utility Support Systems to provide a fully reliable, independent operating facility.
