Applicability of a New Method for Selecting Weathering Steel for Bridges

In this study, a recently proposed method for selecting weathering steel was applied to weathering steel bridges to be built in Matsue. To measure the corrosion loss over one year, a short-term exposure test was carried out using new type test specimen (50mm × 50mm × 2mm/t). And, the environmental observation was also carried out. Though the environment in the research area is very corrosive, the exposure testing results indicated that it is possible to use weathering steel. The applicability of the method and other issues are discussed on the basis of exposure testing results and observation of the environments.
