An experimental approach has been performed to ascertain the posibilitics of forming magnesium sheet plates at room temperature. Formability of AZ31(Mg-3Al-1Zn) magnesium sheet alloys at room temperature and the effectiveness of a two stage forming process assisted by ironing and redrawing with axial force in a direction of sheet thickness, were investigated. Variations of the tested specimen thickness for each process were measured to clarify the mechanism of the forming process. It was also observed that surface conditions of the products formed at room temperature were better than for the products formed by deep drawing at 250℃. A LDR of 1.40 was found possible by using a deep drawing process together with ironing and redrawing by axial force.
