Reefs Extraction using satellite remote sensing technology plays an important role in maritime safety, marine surveying and marine military. After analyzing and processing of the WorldView-II satellite remote sensing data, reefs extraction algorithm that combining the principal components analysis transform and edge enhancement algorithm is proposed in this paper. The principal component analysis transform is applied for all the eight bands of the WorldView-II data, and the edge is enhanced by using the sharpened near-infrared image. Then the LOG operator and mathematical morphology are used to extract and thin the edge of the reefs. The results show that this method can removes the linear correlated redundant information in the multi-spectral bands, and higher extraction accuracy of reefs edge can be obtained at the same time. As for the computational complexity and computational efficiency, this method is better than other algorithms.
