Case Study, Trial Burn Process at a Sulfuric Acid Regeneration Plant

Rhone-Poulenc Incorporated (RPI) is regulated by the Boiler and Industrial Furnace (BIF) regultions (40 CFR 266, Subpart H). RPI conducted a BIF Trial Burn in october 1996. Prior to conducting this Trial Burn a workplan had to be prepared and subsequently approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Region 5. This process took approximately one year and five months starting from USEPA's first review of the Trial Burn Plan. Public participation in this process was taken into consideration evidenced by the additional testing that RPI ultimately did for this Trial Burn.
