Regional Culture, Architecture and Urban Renewal: The Case of Preservation and Renewal in the Old City of Quanzhou

摘要

This case study describes the results of urban design and detailed site planning for several projects involving faculty and students from the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University. The combined preservation and renewal of the historic city of Quanzhou is a very complicated, difficult task that requires great care in its planning and implementation. The overall goal of the task is to create a better urban environment for those who live and work in the city. How well the task is carried out reflects in part how deep the concerned planners and developers understand the region's culture and architecture.
