Silicone Elastomers for High Performance

摘要

The lecture gives a survey on typical well-known fields of application as well as new developments in silicone rubber technology with respect to properties, processing and applications. Major fields of development are: 1. HCR addition-curing 2. HCR pelletized 3. Fast curing, non post-cure LSR 4. Self-bonding LSR 5. HCR for fire-safety cables The outlined developments open up new possibilities for manufacturers to provide products of higher quality and with increased productivity. As an example cost reduction can be achieved by use of addition-curing systems versus peroxides or feeding pelletized HCR to the extruder instead of stripes. Furthermore composites of materials such as plastic with self-adhesive liquid silicone rubber enable the use of silicone elastomers in industries other than traditional rubber fabricators.
