Implications of the self-similar behaviour of real traffic sourceson the local queue occupancy in metropolitan area networks

Recent measurement analysis obtained over real testbeds show thatnmultimedia applications produce aggregated traffic well-described bynbursty stochastic processes which exhibit long-range dependence. Thenpaper presents a simulation comparison between the behaviour of a DQDBnMAN driven by different sources: real multimedia traffic (collected bynexperimental measurement) and stochastic models used to fit itsnself-similar nature. Our attention is particularly directed tonself-similar traffics, modeled by fractional Gaussian noise processes
