The paper describes a distributed fax messaging system (AutoFax)nwith the capability of manipulating fax messages. The objective of thensystem is to recognize, store and route fax messages automatically in andistributed environment. Fax message images are interpreted and routednto the appropriate receiver's mailbox. In addition, the contents of eachnfax message are recognized and stored according to their logical andnlayout formats in order to reduce the amount of storage required. Thenproposed system is based on a client-server architecture. The server isnresponsible for recognizing and storing fax messages. The clientnprovides an interface for the user to compose, manage and send faxnmessages. The construction of the AutoFax system is based on annobject-oriented approach with an object-oriented database system (ODBMS)
