摘要

A new formula for designing loose tube fiber optic cable is proposed and discussed in this paper. This formula is more reasonable because it considers also excess fiber length (EFL) inside the loose tube, which is assumed to be zero in the most widely used designing formula by the industries nowadays. Cables based on this new design formula have been produced, tested, and deployed. They all meet the industry standards and perform well after deployment. By adopting this new design formula, the benefit of cost down of loose tube fiber optic cable will bring to the industries.
