Hard-copy needs for modern radiation therapy treatment planning and delivery

Abstract: Modern radiation therapy planning depends heavily on computer- generated graphics for the display of anatomical images and for the design and display of beam placement. Hardcopy output of the planning results are a vital part of the patient's permanent record. The types of graphics involved include gray-scale images acquired from computerized x-ray tomography and other imaging modalities. These images are used to aid in localizing the volume to be treated as well as neighboring anatomy. This presentation will provide a summary of the types of images used for radiation therapy planning and an analysis of the current and near future hardcopy requirements. !0
