HIGH-RESOLUTION HOLOCENE STRATIGRAPHY OF THE NUECES RIVERBAYHEAD DELTA AND INCISED VALLEY OF THE SOUTHWESTERN TEXASGULF COAST

The Nueces-Corpus Christi Bay sedimentary complex composed of fluvial and deltaicrnsediments occupy the incised valley excavated by the Nueces River during the last glacial period.rnDeposition occurred during the Holocene sea-level rise. The depositional history of the bay andrnthe identification of five deltas within Nueces Bay, is described. 14C dates indicate that the oldestrntwo deltas were deposited before Cal BC 4330 years and the youngest two deltas by Cal BCrn1120 years. Between deposition of the oldest and youngest deltas there is evidence of sea levelrnbeing higher than present. The Nueces River bayhead deltas and incised valley are an excellentrnexample of a preserved transgressive incised valley-fill sequence.
