In-situ CO2 removal gasification has been developed for the hydrogen production fromrncoal, named HyPr-RING in Japan. The overall reaction is as follows,rnCarbonaceous material + H2O + M →H2 + MCO2, at a high temperature and high pressure.rnHere, M is CO2 sorbent. We started the R&D project to apply the in-situ CO2 removalrngasification to produce hydrogen from woody biomass.rnOn the laboratory scale, the products distribution at a different reaction temperature fromrn200 to 650 ℃ was examined to get fundamental information on the biomass degradationrnduring the gasification. Woody biomass was gasified in steam at a high temperature (~rn650 ℃) and high pressure (~ 6.5 Mpa) at the presence of a CO2 sorbent using a batch reactorrnwith 50 mL capacity. The evolved CO2 was completely adsorbed in the sorbent, and no CO2rnwas in the gas phase. Below 500 ℃, H2 was a main product in the product gas, and CH4 andrnhydrocarbons were obtained above 500 ℃. The degradation scheme was discussed.rnAfter the batch test, a continuous bench-scale unit was constructed. The capacity was 10rnkg of wood a day, and the reactor was placed into a pressure vessel.
